Back home

Hello Friends and Family,
First and foremost, thank you for the outpouring of support and kind words that truly are comforting to read and hear.

I know many of you may be wondering about our plans for the coming days, so I thought I’d send out a quick update.

We are currently planning a very small, private burial in Andover within the next few days.  As you can imagine, this is a pretty emotionally draining and unpredictable time for us, and we feel like this would be best for us right now.

However, we do want to have an opportunity to celebrate Aaron’s short but full life with more of you, especially those who are in the Boston area (we wouldn’t want anyone to feel compelled to travel from far distances, as we know that there will be other ways to celebrate and commemorate Aaron with you in the future), who would be interested in to doing so.  This will probably take place on a weekend in August.  We will send more details as soon as we have them.

As for the immediate future, Dan will be getting ready for Summer Session for the next few days, which we have both concluded will be a welcome distraction and responsibility for the next 5 weeks.  Dan’s parents are here now and we are having a wonderful time with them.  Alison has been so happy to read and play with them, and their presence in the house has been lifting our spirits all day.  My parents will be visiting next week for a long weekend, and that will be immensely helpful as well.  So, we are feeling well cared for in every way and should not have too many additional needs for a while.

We had a good conversation with Alison this morning about Aaron's death, and she seems to be processing it in a healthy and gradual way.  The doctors and nurses at the hospital gave her a snuggly bear as a present, and she seems to be gaining much comfort through directing much of the love she had stored up for Aaron toward him, whom she also named Aaron.

We may not be in touch as closely, or may be slower to return calls/emails/etc., but we are always glad to hear from you.

We have always lived with the strong belief that this life was meant to be lived and experienced with other people—so that we may have as many chances to give, receive, share, comfort, laugh, and learn from each other—and this week you have all confirmed that belief a thousand times over.

Love,
Leah & Dan
